Meet Your Teacher...
My name is Jeanine Swan and this year I will be serving the Village Meadows' community as a 5th grade career teacher. Previously, I was a mentor teacher as well as a 5th/6th grade teacher. I love being part of the Village Meadows' team! We truly are a "community" of positive learners.
Some people might consider me a late bloomer as I began my teaching career fourteen years ago. Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a retail manager and a furniture designer. Later in life, I went back to school to earn my bachelor's degree in elementary education. I taught sixth grade for six years in the Glendale Elementary School District and I have been teaching fifth grade at Village Meadows for the past eight years. Four years ago, I completed graduate school and earned my master's degree in Educational Administration and Supervision at ASU West. I have the philosophy that learning is a life-long endeavor and I learn something new each and every day from my wonderful students!
I am also the mother of two grown children, and recently, I became a grandmother. My son, Jim is thirty-one years old and my daughter, Heather is twenty-six (please see pictures below). My children are the loves of my life and I am so proud of both of them. Although the two of them are now grown and parents themselves, it does not seem that long ago when they were in grade school. Like most children, they preferred to watch T.V. and play video games rather than read and do their homework. However, Jim and Heather learned that their success in school and in life was determined by their motivation, effort and a belief in themselves; a lesson that I hope to instill with all my students.
